Privacy Policy
for Mother Companion
Short version
Mother Companion is a pregnancy companion for iPhone. Your due date, name, mood, symptom, exercise, weight, kick, visit and other logs stay on your iPhone. The app has no account, no login, no server of ours, no ads, no tracking and no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. Ask, the daily brief, Snap and the other AI features run on your device with Apple’s on-device model, and your photos are never saved or uploaded. Apple Health is optional, and Health data is never sent to us, to RevenueCat, to an AI service or to anyone else, and never used for advertising. The only traffic the app makes to a service of ours or a vendor’s is a purchase check with RevenueCat, under a random anonymous ID, when you view, buy or restore Mother Companion Plus. It never includes your health information.
1. Who we are
Mother Companion is published by Akhaneva, the brand of Muhammad Hanif Sugiyanto, an individual developer (“we,” “us,” “our”). This policy describes how the Mother Companion iOS app handles information. Questions or requests: akhaneva.co@gmail.com. Please read this policy together with our Terms of Use.
2. What leaves your device, and what does not
Does not leave your device through the app: everything in section 3, your Apple Health data (section 4), your photos and the text read from them (section 5), and everything you type to or get from the AI features (section 6).
Does leave your device:
- A purchase and entitlement check with RevenueCat, described in section 9, and the purchase itself with Apple.
- Anything you choose to send with the iOS share sheet (section 11).
- Web pages you open by tapping a link in the app, which open in Safari.
We do not operate a server that receives your personal data, and we do not receive copies of your logs.
3. What is stored on your iPhone
Everything below is stored locally in the app’s sandbox on your iPhone, using Apple’s SwiftData and UserDefaults, plus a few files in the app’s Documents folder. The app does not use iCloud or CloudKit.
- Profile and settings: your due date, your name (optional), your country, your goals (weekly exercise minutes, daily water cups), your vitamin reminder on/off and time, appointment-reminder and Siri toggles, your height and pre-pregnancy weight, your hospital-bag checklist, and your calm-scene and sound choices.
- Mood check-ins: date, mood, stress level (1 to 5), feeling tags and an optional free-text note.
- Exercise: date, activity, minutes, intensity and an optional note, plus any workouts you import from Apple Health.
- Calm sessions: date, kind (for example breathing or grounding) and duration.
- Daily check-ins: whether you took your vitamin, water cups, whether you slept well, caffeine, and which check-in questions you answered.
- Visits: date, kind, title, location, notes, your questions for the visit and which ones you have asked.
- Symptoms: date, symptom, severity (1 to 3) and an optional note.
- Weight: date and weight entries, including any you import from Apple Health.
- Kick counter sessions: date, kick count and duration.
- Snap history: for each Snap, the date, a short product name, the guide’s result (the safety status and the list of matched items), the country whose rules were used and, if one was written, a short AI summary. The photo itself is never saved. Only the newest 100 results are kept; older ones are deleted automatically.
- Ask history: your saved chats with the companion (your questions and the answers, or the guide cards shown). Only the newest 50 chats are kept; older ones are deleted automatically. Questions you ask through Siri are not saved.
- Today’s daily brief: the brief written for today and which actions you tapped, kept so it is written once a day.
- Keepsake images: pictures you create with Image Playground (a Plus feature), copied into the app’s Documents folder.
- Subscription cache and free-question counter: whether Mother Companion Plus was last active, and how many free AI answers you have used today (3 free per day).
Held in memory only and never saved: the contraction timer list, the photo and text from a Snap while its result is open, and text read from a product label by the scanner. They disappear when you close the app or the screen.
Your device backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup, if you use one) may include the app’s data under Apple’s standard backup rules. That is controlled by your device settings and Apple, not by us (section 13).
4. Apple Health (HealthKit)
Connecting Apple Health is optional and off until you tap Connect Apple Health. The app asks iOS for permission only then, and you choose what to allow in Apple’s Health sheet.
- What we read: workouts (from the last 28 days), steps (today’s total) and body mass (weight, from about the start of your pregnancy onward). Workouts and weights are copied into the app’s local store so they appear in Move and your weight tracker. Steps are shown but not saved as a log.
- What we write: nothing, unless you switch on Write my weight to Health in Settings. Then, and only then, weights you log in the app are saved to Health as body mass. Weights logged before you switched it on are not copied.
- What we do with it: Health data is used only to show your movement and weight in the app and to count workouts toward your weekly goal. The app’s on-device AI features (the daily brief and Ask) may mention an imported workout (type and minutes) when it is part of your last seven days. They never receive your steps or Health weights. Siri and Spotlight never see Health data.
- What we never do: we do not send Health data to our servers (we have none), to RevenueCat, to any AI or analytics service or to any other third party. We do not use Health data for advertising, marketing or data mining, and we do not sell it or disclose it to data brokers, advertising platforms or information resellers. We do not store Health data in iCloud.
- Stopping: tap Stop using Health data in Settings to stop importing and remove imported workouts and weights from the app (nothing in Apple Health is changed). To withdraw the system permission completely, open the iOS Settings app, then Apps, Health, Data Access & Devices, and choose Mother Companion. Apple does not tell apps which read permissions you allowed, so the app shows “No data from Health yet” when it finds nothing.
5. Camera, photos and Snap
Snap reads labels, menus, food and skincare packaging so the app can check them against its built-in food and beauty guides.
- Camera: used only while you are on the Snap or label-scanner screens. The permission text reads: “Mother Companion uses the camera to read labels, menus and food so it can check them for pregnancy. Photos stay on your device.” You can instead pick a photo with the iOS photo picker. The app receives only the photo you pick and does not get access to your photo library.
- On-device reading: the app uses Apple’s Vision and Live Text frameworks to read text, detect barcodes and guess what the picture shows, on your device. The result is matched against the built-in guides by fixed rules. No photo, video, text or barcode is uploaded.
- Not saved: the photo is held in memory while the result is open and then discarded. The app does not save photos or video to your photo library or to its own storage. (A photo picked from your library is briefly copied to a temporary file so it can be read, and that file is deleted straight afterwards.) What is kept is the short history entry described in section 3, which you can delete.
- Visual Intelligence (Camera Control or a screenshot): if you choose to search with Mother Companion, iOS hands the app an image. The app reads text in it on your device and returns matching ingredients. Nothing is stored or sent by the app.
6. Apple Intelligence and AI-generated content
Ask, the daily brief, Snap summaries, the weekly mood reflection and partner messages use Apple’s Foundation Models framework, which runs the language model on your device. We do not send any of this to a cloud AI service, and we do not use third-party AI services. Your questions and the model’s answers are processed on your iPhone.
- What the model is given: to personalise an answer, the app gives the on-device model a snapshot from your own logs: your name, pregnancy week, goals, the last seven days of activity (including imported workouts, as above), recent mood lines (mood, stress, feeling tags), up to ten recent symptom names with severity, and your next visit (title, date, place and number of questions). Free-text mood notes are included only for the weekly reflection. For Snap, the model gets a short excerpt of the text read from the photo, the picture-type guesses, the matched guide items and the guide’s verdict.
- Where the content comes from: the safety verdict in Snap and the guide cards in Ask come from the app’s built-in guides, which cite published guidance from health authorities for the country you choose. The AI only explains and words the answer. Each AI answer is checked by the app against those guides before you see it, and a plain guide-based answer is shown instead if the check fails. AI-generated text can still be wrong or incomplete. AI-written content in the app carries an Apple Intelligence badge so you can tell it from the built-in guide text.
- Safety notice: before an Ask answer, the app checks your question for urgent keywords and shows a safety notice first. The model is instructed not to diagnose or give medication doses.
- Image Playground: the keepsake feature (Plus) opens Apple’s Image Playground with a fixed prompt. No photos or personal data from the app are passed to it. The image you create is copied to the app’s Documents folder. Image Playground is Apple’s framework and is governed by Apple’s terms.
- Not medical advice: see section 18 and our Terms of Use.
7. Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight
Mother Companion offers Siri and Shortcuts actions, such as asking the companion a question, logging a symptom, exercise or mood, or checking a food or beauty ingredient. Siri actions can read from and write to the same on-device store the app uses. Siri may speak or display the answer, which can include personal details such as your next visit date and location. Siri and Shortcuts are Apple services, and how Apple handles a spoken request is governed by Apple’s privacy policy. Siri answers never include workouts imported from Apple Health.
Spotlight and Siri index (on by default). In Settings, Let Siri use my activity & mood logs is switched on by default. While on, the app adds the exercise entries you log yourself (activity, minutes, intensity, date) and your mood check-ins (mood, stress, feeling tags, date) to a Core Spotlight index on your device so Siri and Apple Intelligence can use them. Free-text mood notes and Health data are not indexed. Turn the setting off and the app removes those entries from the index. Deleting an exercise session in the app also removes its index entry. The app also indexes its own built-in list of beauty ingredients and foods, which contains no personal data.
Siri suggestions. When you log an exercise or a mood check-in, the app tells iOS about it (an “intent donation”) so Siri can learn your routines. These donations include the activity, minutes and intensity, or the mood and stress value. They are handled by iOS on your device.
8. Notifications
Mother Companion sends local notifications only. There are no push notifications and no remote notification service. We ask for permission when you first turn on the daily vitamin reminder or a visit reminder.
- The vitamin reminder repeats daily at the time you choose.
- The visit reminder fires the evening before a visit. Its text includes the visit title, time and number of questions you saved, so it can appear on your lock screen depending on your iOS notification settings.
9. Purchases: Mother Companion Plus
Mother Companion is free to use, with a daily allowance of AI answers. Food and beauty safety checks, symptom guides and warning signs, the kick counter and the contraction timer are always free. Mother Companion Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription (weekly or annual).
Apple processes all payments. Apple receives your Apple Account, payment and billing details. We never see your card number, name, email or address.
We use RevenueCat to check whether Plus is active. The RevenueCat SDK starts when the app opens (and when Siri runs an action), and it contacts RevenueCat to load prices, check free-trial eligibility, and verify, make or restore a purchase. The app does not log you in or give RevenueCat any user ID, name or email, so RevenueCat assigns a random anonymous ID. Per RevenueCat’s documentation, RevenueCat receives the App Store receipt or transaction data, that anonymous ID, product identifiers, and standard technical information such as device model, OS version, app version, locale and IP address. Your name, due date, health data, and your mood, symptom, exercise, weight and other logs are never sent to RevenueCat. RevenueCat acts as our service provider, and its handling of data is described in RevenueCat’s privacy policy. RevenueCat is a US company, so this purchase data may be processed in the United States.
10. What we do not collect
Mother Companion does not use location, contacts, your photo library, microphone, speech recognition, motion sensors, Bluetooth or your calendar. It has no advertising identifier, no tracking prompt, no third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, A/B-testing or crash-reporting SDK, no account or email sign-in, and no server of ours. We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and we do not use your health information for advertising or data mining. Because we do not track you, there is nothing to opt out of.
The only third-party software in the app is the RevenueCat SDK. Apple may separately give us anonymous App Store, TestFlight and crash statistics if you have chosen to share them in your iOS settings. These are not linked to your logs and we do not receive your logs from them.
11. Links, sharing and emergency numbers
- Links. The paywall links to our Terms and Privacy pages. Guides cite official health sources (for example the NHS, ACOG, Food Standards Australia New Zealand or Indonesia’s Ministry of Health). These open in Safari, and the app itself sends no data when you tap them. Those websites have their own privacy policies.
- Share sheet. Features such as the partner note, food and beauty results, your symptom log (up to 60 entries) and a visit summary use the iOS share sheet. They only prepare text, and nothing leaves the app unless you pick where to send it. What happens next is up to the app you choose.
- Emergency and support numbers. The support screen shows phone numbers as tappable
tel:links. Tapping one opens the phone dialler, and the app sends nothing.
12. Third parties
- Apple: App Store, In-App Purchase and StoreKit, HealthKit, Apple Intelligence and Foundation Models, Vision and Live Text, Image Playground, Siri, Shortcuts, Spotlight and Visual Intelligence. Governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
- RevenueCat: Plus entitlement checks only, as described in section 9.
That is the entire list. We do not sell or share your data with advertisers, data brokers or any AI provider.
13. Retention, deletion and backups
We hold no copy of your logs, so retention is up to you on your device. Mother Companion has no account, so there is no account to delete.
- In the app you can delete: exercise sessions you logged (swipe), symptom entries (swipe or context menu), visits (Delete visit), single Snap results (swipe) or all of them (Settings > Clear Snap history), single Ask chats (swipe) or all of them (Settings > Clear Ask history), and the contraction list (Clear). Turning off the vitamin reminder cancels it, and deleting a visit cancels its reminder. Make a new one replaces a week’s keepsake image. Stop using Health data removes imported workouts and weights. Turning off Let Siri use my activity & mood logs removes those entries from the Spotlight index.
- Not deletable one by one in the app: individual mood check-ins, weight entries you logged yourself, kick sessions, calm sessions, daily check-ins, your height and pre-pregnancy weight. There is no “delete all my data” button, and Reset due date in Settings returns you to the welcome screen but keeps your logs. Deleting the app erases all of these.
- Deleting the app removes everything the app stored on your iPhone. Spotlight and Siri entries and donations are managed by iOS, and they are removed with the app, but iOS controls the timing.
- Backups. If you back up your iPhone, the app’s data can be included in that backup under Apple’s rules. If you restore a backup, the data comes back. Delete old backups in your iOS settings if you want them gone. The app does not itself write to iCloud or to iCloud Drive, and we have no access to your backups.
- Purchase data at RevenueCat is held under RevenueCat’s retention policy. Contact us to ask for help with a deletion request, and include the Apple order or transaction ID from your receipt so we can try to locate the record.
- Subscriptions are cancelled in Settings > your name > Subscriptions, not by deleting the app.
14. Your rights
Because your logs live only on your device, you exercise most rights directly there: you can see, correct and delete your data in the app, and delete the app to erase all of it. If you contact us, we will confirm what little we hold and help with purchase data held by RevenueCat. We will answer within the time the law of your country requires, or within 30 days if none applies. We do not charge for requests and do not discriminate against you for making one.
United States. Depending on your state (for example California under the CCPA/CPRA, and Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and others), you may have the right to know and access what we hold, correct or delete it, get a portable copy, and opt out of sale, targeted advertising and profiling. We do not sell or share personal information, do not use it for targeted advertising, and do not use or disclose sensitive personal information (which includes health information) for anything other than providing the app on your device. We do not collect consumer health data on a server, and we do not sell or share it. This includes the consumer health data protected by laws such as Washington’s My Health My Data Act and Nevada’s SB 370. If we refuse a request you may appeal by emailing us with “Appeal” in the subject line, and you can then contact your state attorney general. Because we do not track you, we have no opt-out preference signal to honour.
United Kingdom and European Economic Area (GDPR and UK GDPR). You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. The controller is Muhammad Hanif Sugiyanto, trading as Akhaneva (contact in section 1). Our legal bases are:
- Your explicit consent (Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)) for health-related information you enter or choose to import from Apple Health. That processing takes place on your device, you give consent by entering the data or by connecting Apple Health, and you withdraw it by deleting the data, using Stop using Health data or deleting the app.
- Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in preventing misuse of paid features (Article 6(1)(f)) for the purchase check with RevenueCat.
RevenueCat may process data in the United States. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy for the safeguards it uses for international transfers. You may complain to your data protection authority, for example the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK or your national authority in the EU.
Australia. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). You may ask for access to or correction of your personal information using the contact details above. Purchase data may be disclosed to RevenueCat in the United States as described in section 9. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Indonesia (UU PDP, Law No. 27 of 2022). Health information is specific personal data under the law. You have the rights to information, access and a copy, correction, deletion or destruction, withdrawal of consent, objection to automated decision-making, restriction of processing, and to seek redress. We process health-related information only with your explicit consent, given as described above. You can withdraw your consent by deleting your data or the app. If a personal data breach affected data we hold, we would notify you and the competent authority as the law requires. Purchase data may be transferred to RevenueCat in the United States as described in section 9.
Elsewhere. We apply the same practices everywhere, and you can use the contact details above to exercise any right your local law gives you.
15. Children’s privacy
Mother Companion is designed for adults who are pregnant or supporting someone who is, and is intended for users aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where the law sets a higher age of digital consent), and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us. Because we hold no copy of app data, deleting the app removes it.
16. Data security
Your data is protected by iOS device security: your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID and Apple’s on-device encryption. Traffic between the app and RevenueCat is sent over encrypted connections. We do not apply extra encryption of our own to the app’s local store. Because we hold no server-side copy of your logs, there is no database of ours to breach. Keep iOS up to date and use a device passcode.
17. Automated features
The AI features generate text automatically on your device. They do not make legal or similarly significant decisions about you, and no decision is made about you by us or any third party based on your logs.
18. Not medical advice
Mother Companion provides general education and gentle support. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It does not replace your doctor or midwife. Answers from the guides and from AI can be incomplete, out of date or wrong for you. If something feels wrong, call your provider, and in an emergency call your local emergency number.
19. Changes to this policy
If we change how data is handled, for example by adding iCloud sync or a new service, we will update this page and its “last updated” date before the change ships. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes. This version takes effect on 6 October 2026.
20. Contact
